According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, Chennai experienced heavy rain for the third time in the last 72 years on November 1. It has been raining since last night in many parts of Tamil Nadu.
As the North East Monsoon has intensified in Tamil Nadu, the capital Chennai and surrounding districts have been receiving continuous rain since yesterday evening.
Chennai Nungambakkam alone received 80.4 mm. Rain is reported. This is the third time in the last 72 years that Chennai has received such heavy rainfall on November 1. Warning to fishermen

Also, on November 1 and 2, cyclonic winds of 40 to 50 km/h are likely to prevail over the Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu, and South West Bay of Bengal along the northern Sri Lankan coast. Therefore, the Meteorological Department has urged that fishermen should not visit these areas on those dates.
